Two Questions About English Language Weirdness

1.  How did “radical” move from meaning “rooted” to meaning “utterly unrooted in anything that is normal”?2. How did “literally” go from meaning,  you know, “literally” to meaning “figuratively” (as in “my head *literally* exploded).
