The Synod on the Family is Shaping Up Nicely
For months, I’ve been seeing bed-wetting panic from the Greatest Catholics of All Time about the Synod on the Family, and the horrible, terrible, no good, very bad “liberal agenda” Francis is allegedly about to impose on the Church. The usual screamers in the Reactionary camp have been warning of the apocalypse to come from the synod. Now, today, I get an email from the Woodstock wing of the Church, equally upset with Francis and the Synod:CCRI IN DESPAIR OVER POPE’S APPOINTMENTS TO THE FAMILY SYNODCatholic Church Reform International (CCRI), a worldwide coalition of organizations and individuals from more than 6o countries seeking reforms in the church, is angry over the news yesterday from Rome. “We despair over these recent appointments to the Synod composed largely of the highest level prelates. We wonder what they know about the real needs of real families,” said Rene Reid, director and co-founder of CCRI.CCRI believes that Pope Francis should underline his wish to “involve all the People of God” in the Synod by broadcasting the complete Synod proceedings on satellite radio and television, as they have already explained to the pope in an open letter earlier this summer. “If the Synod is for the people of God, then it should not be conducted in secret. We should at least know what the Synod Fathers are saying, presumably on our behalf,” said Robert Blair Kaiser, author and co-founder of CCRI.Despair. Goodness me. “If you hear a thing being accused of being too tall and too short, too red and too green, too bad in one way and too bad also in the opposite way, then you may be sure that it is very good.” – G.K. Chesterton
